The vision...A stronger community providing opportunity and respect, embracing diversity, and inspiring people with disabilities to live a full life.
The mission of the Pomeroy Recreation & Rehabilitation Center is to provide recreation, vocational and educational opportunities for people with disabilities through programs and services that encourage self-expression, promote personal achievement, and lead to greater independence.
Today, the Center provides programs for children, teens, adults and seniors each week with support from dedicated and skilled staff. Volunteers and interns offer additional support throughout the year. Center facilities include a therapeutic swimming pool, gymnasium, adaptive computer lab, playground, theater with stage, and a community garden with greenhouse. The Center also provides employment training and job placement for individuals with disabilities and works in cooperation with St. Mary's hospital of San Francisco to serve people who have experience traumatic brain injury. The Center also serves as the San Francisco Traumatic Brain Injury Network.
On Friday, May 23, 2014 the Pomeroy Recreation Center's Children & Teen Department is holding a prom for high school transitioned aged teens and young adults (15-22 yrs. old) with developmental disabilities. We want this to be an enjoyable and memorable evening for these students by providing a fun, safe, and drug & alcohol free environment.
Our programs emphasize group interactions, physical activity, social skills and cognitive development. Our primary goal is social development – learning proper interactions, developing communication skills, and helping children and teens establish meaningful friendships. We also believe learning can, and should be, a fun as well as a rewarding experience. Learn more.
